About Therapy with Me

2161397279Effective therapy requires a caring relationship.

If you happen to be a fan of the show Insecure, maybe you’ve seen the episode where one of the characters describes therapists as fake friends who are paid to talk to people who don’t have friends about their problems. You might be surprised that my only problem with that statement is the idea that therapists are all fakes.

Let me clarify: The therapeutic relationship is not necessarily a friendship but a genuine, caring one. Therapy is a partnership you create with someone who cares about you and wants to work for you.

If you feel that your therapist is more like a fake friend than someone who is genuinely there to help you strategize to improve your life, I encourage you to find a new therapist. Please give me a call ASAP!

Helping YOU grow is the primary goal.

While working together, you are the expert of your life. My role is to serve as someone who is there to help you face yourself without judging you while supporting you as you process the impact of your behavior or the behavior of others.

Knowing leads to growth. If you find it hard to trust others, fear being judged once you share what you have, or endure emotional hurt and pain by holding back from your full potential, then growth cannot occur.

Growth is possible in my safe space because there is no judgment. I hope you will join me in creating a unique environment where you can be brave and start the journey toward your desired life.

It is our healing season.

The journey to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor with the additional awareness that comes with being a Mental Health Service Provider has provided benefits that I never anticipated during the early years of my career.

One invaluable change I’ve seen over the past ten years is the elevation in conversations around mental health. Don’t get me wrong; it’s still often an uncomfortable discussion. However, I’m truly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to normalize the conversations more and help people connect on a human level, especially post-pandemic.

If you’re looking for a mental health professional to lead a conversation for your group, team, church, or organization, give me a call to discuss the topic(s) I can customize to influence your environment and to continue educating and elevating the conversation around mental health.

About Me

AdminEducation

Being a therapist continues to provide benefits that I didn’t consciously factor in during the early years of my career. One of my favorite benefits is being required to continue to learn and evolve.

As I stated before, I intend to continue to learn and grow as a counselor. Below is information about the education I’ve received so far:

Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Human Resources
University of Memphis – Memphis, TN

Master of Arts in Professional Counseling
(CACREP Accredited)
Liberty University – Lynchburg, Virginia – July 2020

Certifications

NCC – Nationally Certified Counselor (June 2021-2025)
CGP – Certified Grief-Informed Professional (December 2022)

Licensure

LPC-MHSP – TN5852 (August 2023-2025)

Challenging events shaped my life.

One of my most challenging experiences thus far was losing my mother. I recall feeling like the whole world was continuing to move when I wanted everything and everyone around me to stop – to stop where they were and not move again literally.

I recall isolating myself from family and friends because I couldn’t sit up and didn’t want to smile. It took too much energy to have conversations.

This major life event was one of the reasons I became a licensed professional counselor. I decided I had a lot to learn about managing my mental health. To this day, I want to help others do the same.

I am so grateful to have repeated chances to help people understand that the myriad of emotions they may feel during grief or loss do not make them odd or weak.

I know that praying about the hurt may not be enough, and I get to emphasize to my clients that it is okay to acknowledge this. As Christians, the trials that come to make us stronger can feel incredibly debilitating for a while.

Fortunately, it really is possible to learn to live with wounds that are too deep today to imagine. With genuine support and proper treatment, it really can be done. I’m excited to see you journey into your future by seeking the help you deserve today.  Invest in you!
